Anders Aldrin Oil Derricks OIl on Canvas Board P1190 SOLD

LA still has 3000 active oil wells, now mostly camouflaged, but from the 1920s through the even the 60s large swathes of the urban landscape bristled with many more thousands of these oil derricks, to the point where they were a defining feature of the city. Naturalized Californian Anders Aldrin looked at it all with fresh eyes, rendering it the Californian particularities with surpassing skill. Van Gogh had wheat fields, Aldrin had oil fields. Gorgeous work. 14″ x 16″
