Dorothy Sklar 1906-1996 Oil on Board 1953 P1454

Dorothy Sklar is noted as a honored Regional watercolorist but Rarely do we find her works on Board. Here we have an Oil on board of young people enjoying the great California outdoors. Large also for works by her 25 x 30 and still wearing its Original Hollywood Regency style frame. Has been recently cleaned. Unusual Color Palette for her.

Dorothy Sklar (1906-1996)…Born: New York City, NY. Studied: University of Southern California (Los Angeles), Chouinard Art Institute (Los Angeles). Member: California Water Color Society. Dorothy Sklar’s family moved to Southern California when she was about four years old. She was raised in the Los Angeles area and attended USC with a major in the education field.

While working as a teacher in Santa Monica during the 1930’s, she took instruction in watercolor painting from Millard Sheets and Dong Kingman. By the early 1940’s she had quit teaching and was painting and exhibiting in art shows across the country with the California Water Color Society.
