Haidee Zack (1893-1991) “Horse of the Pueblo” 1961 Oil on Canvas P836

25″ x 30″, with frame, 30 1/2″ x 36″

The painting is spectacular: a semi abstract impression of the Southwest, full of surprise, an exploding figuration, lessons from De Kooning… a hip regionalism is forged. The blue you would expect in the sky now belongs to the shaded side of the house as well, the gaunt horse framing the view like a sun struck proscenium. Really terrific.
