Margot of Taxco sterling silver choker and matching earrings. (The earrings have been SOLD, alas, but the knockout choker remains available.)
Margot van Voorhies Carr is known primarily for her work in champlevé enamel which she started producing in 1955. She created many of the early designs for Los Castillo while she was married to Antonio Castillo. She opened her own shop, Margot de Taxco in 1948, and opened another branch in Mexico City shortly thereafter. Her business card read, “As the Stars are to the Night, So are Jewels to the Woman”. John Wayne and Lana Turner were regular customers, returning yearly to her store. After the shops closed in 1978, permission was given to a few of her former silversmiths to use some of her designs.
